This university, which is not made up of a campus, is spread out like the roots of a tree with more than 14 institutions spread out in all directions. Currently, more than 43,200 students are studying here at the university.
Sultan Moulay Slimane University History
We all know that the University of Sultan Moulay Slimane (USMS) was officially established in 2007. Before this university was established, there was no university in Beni Mellal, Morocco, so they had to go to universities in cities outside Beni Mellal to study.
However, the university had existed for many years before its founding, such as: (1) the Beni Mellal “Facultyof Letters and Human Sciences” in 1987, (2) the university’s first residence, Ouled Hamdan, was inaugurated in 1989, (3) the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) was established in 1994, and (4) the Pedagogical Faculty (FP) was established in 2004.
This university was established in 2007 in the name of Sultan Moulay Sulaiman bin Mohammed, i.e. Suleiman, of Beni Mellal. Moulay Sulaiman bin Mohammed was famous and known for his respect, personality, religious reform, political, state expansion, religious piety and his correct propagation, etc.

Therefore, this university was named Sultan Moulay Sulaiman University in honor of Moulay Sulaiman. Although the university consists of multiple campuses, its main campus is located in Beni Mellal, and other campuses are located in the cities of Fakih Ben Saleh, Khouribga, Azilal, and Khenifra.
Currently, more than 43,200 students are pursuing education here, and there are more than 791 professors / 1090 to 1101 staff members here.
Just as Sultan Moulay Slimane faced conflicts during his reign, the university, focusing on the political and military reasons for these conflicts, established various campuses, schools, and faculties in the regions of Beni Mellal, Khouribga, Khenifra, Fakih Ben Saleh, and Tadla-Azilal to provide higher education services to the students there, thereby improving economic, social development and education.
